でも、最初さいしょに生うまれた子こは、ヒルコといって、体からだがよくなかったので、舟ふねにのせて、海うみに流ながしました。

However, the first child born to them, called Hiruko, was not well formed, so they put it on a boat and set it adrift on the sea.

「私わたしは、たくさんの子こを生うみましたが、最後さいごに、いちばん貴とうとい三人さんにんの子こを得えました。」

“I have given birth to many children, but in the end I have obtained the three most noble children.”

わけを聞きくと、「ヤマタノオロチという大おおきな蛇へびが、毎年まいとし来きて、娘むすめを食たべます。もう七なな人にん食たべられて、この子こが最後さいごの娘むすめです」と答こたえました。

When he asked why, they answered, “A giant serpent called Yamata no Orochi comes every year and eats a daughter. Seven have already been eaten, and this child is the last.”

クエビコは、「この神かみは、カミムスヒの子この、スクナビコナです」と答こたえました。

Kuebiko answered, “This god is Sukunabikona, a child of Kamimusuhi.”

オオクニヌシがカミムスヒにたずねると、「その子こは、私わたしの子こです。指ゆびの間あいだから落おちてしまいました。二人ふたりで兄弟きょうだいになって、国くにを作つくりなさい」という答こたえでした。

When Ōkuninushi asked Kamimusuhi, the answer was, “That is my child. He slipped through my fingers. Become brothers and make the land together.”
