尋ねる: to ask

駅員えきいんに電車でんしゃの乗り場のりばを尋たずねた。

I asked the station staff where to board the train.

オオクニヌシが名前なまえをたずねても、その神かみは答こたえず、まわりの神かみも、だれも知しりませんでした。

Even when Ōkuninushi asked his name, the god did not answer, and none of the gods around him knew it either.

オオクニヌシがカミムスヒにたずねると、「その子こは、私わたしの子こです。指ゆびの間あいだから落おちてしまいました。二人ふたりで兄弟きょうだいになって、国くにを作つくりなさい」という答こたえでした。

When Ōkuninushi asked Kamimusuhi, the answer was, “That is my child. He slipped through my fingers. Become brothers and make the land together.”

そして、オオクニヌシに、「この国くにを、アマテラスの子こにゆずりますか」とたずねました。

Then he asked Ōkuninushi, “Will you yield this land to Amaterasu’s child?”

アメノウズメが、「あなたは、だれですか」とたずねると、その神かみは、サルタビコと名なのり、案内あんないのために来きたと答こたえました。

When Ame-no-uzume asked, “Who are you?”, the god gave his name as Sarutabiko and answered that he had come to act as a guide.
