卑弥呼: Himiko, queen of Yamatai (3rd century)

卑弥呼ひみこは、人々ひとびとの前まえにあまり姿すがたを見みせませんでした。

Himiko rarely showed herself before the people.

その中そのなかに、邪馬台国やまたいこくという国くにと、その女王じょおうの卑弥呼ひみこが出でてきます。

In it appear a country called Yamatai and its queen, Himiko.

倭わでは長い間ながいあいだ争あらそいが続つづいたため、国々くにぐには相談そうだんして、卑弥呼ひみこを女王じょおうにしたと書かかれています。

It says that because fighting continued in Wa for a long time, the countries consulted together and made Himiko their queen.

卑弥呼ひみこは、鬼道きどうという、神かみや霊れいとつながるような術じゅつを使つかったといわれています。

Himiko is said to have used kidō, an art that seems to connect with gods and spirits.

弟おとうとが、卑弥呼ひみこを助たすけて、政治せいじを行おこなったと書かかれています。

It is written that her younger brother assisted her and helped to run the government.

二三九年にひゃくさんじゅうきゅうねんに、卑弥呼ひみこは、魏ぎという中国ちゅうごくの国くにの皇帝こうていに、使つかいを送おくりました。

In 239 Himiko sent an envoy to the emperor of Wei (Gi), a state in China.
