兎うさぎは寂さびしいと死しんでしまうという噂うわさは、獣人じゅうじんには通つうじない。

The rumor that rabbits die of loneliness doesn't apply to beastfolk.

気多けたの岬みさきで、兄弟きょうだいたちは、皮かわをはがれた兎うさぎが、泣ないているのを見みつけました。

At Cape Keta, the brothers found a hare with its skin stripped off, crying.

兎うさぎが言いわれたとおりにすると、皮かわはひび割ひびわれて、痛いたみがもっと強つよくなりました。

When the hare did as told, its skin cracked and the pain grew worse.

最後さいごに来きたオオナムヂが、兎うさぎにわけを聞ききました。

Ōnamuji, who came last, asked the hare what had happened.

兎うさぎは、「私わたしは淤岐島おきのしまにいて、本土ほんどに渡わたりたいと思おもい、和邇わにをだましました」と答こたえました。

The hare answered, “I was on the island of Okinoshima and wanted to cross to the mainland, so I tricked the wani.”

最後さいごに、だましたことを自慢じまんすると、いちばん後うしろの和邇わにが、兎うさぎをつかまえて、皮かわをはいでしまいました。

At the end it boasted that it had tricked them, and the last wani caught it and stripped off its skin.
