外: outside

外そとは雪ゆきが降ふっています。

It is snowing outside.

そのとき、神々かみがみが鏡かがみを差し出さしだしたので、アマテラスは、ますます不思議ふしぎに思おもって、少すこし外そとへ出でてきました。

Then the gods held out the mirror, and Amaterasu, wondering even more, came a little way out.

すると、アメノタヂカラオが、アマテラスの手てを取とって、外そとへ引き出ひきだしました。

Then Ame-no-tajikarao took Amaterasu by the hand and pulled her out.

ねずみが、「中なかはうつろで、外そとはせまい」と教おしえたので、オオナムヂは穴あなにかくれて助たすかり、ねずみは矢やも持もってきました。

A mouse told him, “Inside it is hollow, but the entrance is narrow,” so he hid in a hole and was saved, and the mouse brought the arrow too.
