〜ましょうか: shall I ...?

N5 · 05 Polite verbs and invitations

Offers to do something for someone, or suggests doing it together.

Verb ます-stem + ましょうか. Offering: 手伝いましょうか (Shall I help?). Suggesting: 一緒に行きましょうか. Reply: お願いします (please) or 大丈夫です (I'm fine). Different from ませんか, which invites.

Examples

荷物にもつを持もちましょうか。

Shall I carry your bags?

ちょっと休やすみましょうか。

Shall we take a short rest?
