Says that something happens before another action or event.

Verb dictionary form / Noun の + 前に. The verb before 前に is always plain present, even if the main sentence is past: 寝る前に歯を磨いた. Noun: 食事の前に. Number of time: 三日前に (no の).

Examples

寝ねる前まえに歯を磨はをみがきます。

I brush my teeth before going to bed.

旅行りょこうの前まえに、ホテルを予約よやくしました。

I booked a hotel before the trip.
