N5 · 03 Particles and where things are

Nouns that say where something is in relation to another thing.

Pattern: Noun の上/下/中/前/後ろ/横/隣 + に + ある/いる. Example: 机の上. Use に for the location of existence. 外=outside, 右/左=right/left, 間=between.

Examples

かばんは机つくえの下したにあります。

The bag is under the desk.

銀行ぎんこうは駅えきの隣となりにあります。

The bank is next to the station.
