Polite negative of です: is not, am not, are not.

Noun/na-adjective + じゃありません. More formal: ではありません. Casual: じゃない. Past: じゃありませんでした. Mistake: using くありません after nouns; that is only for i-adjectives.

Examples

私わたしは学生がくせいじゃありません。

I am not a student.

ここは駅えきではありません。

This is not a station.
