〜とおりに・〜どおり: as; exactly as

N4 · 05 Conditionals & suggestions

Says that something is done the same as described or shown.

Verb plain form + とおりに, or noun + のとおりに / どおりに. 言われたとおりにする. 予定どおり (as planned) and 思ったとおり (just as I thought) are common. Do not mix up with 通り (street).

Examples

先生せんせいに言いわれたとおりに書かきました。

I wrote it exactly as my teacher told me.

電車でんしゃは予定よていどおりに到着とうちゃくした。

The train arrived as scheduled.
