〜じゃないか・〜ではないか: isn't it?; see?; why not

Expresses surprise, confirmation, or a mild suggestion.

Plain form + じゃないか (polite: ではありませんか). Falling tone: surprise or blame (いいじゃないか). Rising tone: asks for agreement. Also 〜ないか as an invitation: 行かないか. Casual contractions: じゃん, じゃない?

Examples

おや、雨あめが降ふっているじゃないか。

Oh, look, it's raining!

いいじゃないか、少すこしぐらい。

What's the harm? It's only a little.
