くださる: honorific: give (to me)

N3 · 11 Honorific & humble language

Honorific of くれる: a superior gives something to me.

くださる (masu form: くださいます). 先生が本をくださった. With a verb: 〜てくださる. The giver is above you. Note: the command form is ください (please give me). Humble opposite: いただく.

Examples

先生せんせいが私わたしに辞書じしょをくださいました。

The teacher gave me a dictionary.

お客様おきゃくさまがお土産おみやげをくださった。

The customer gave us a souvenir.
