〜てくれてありがとう: thank you for doing

Thanks someone for what they did for you.

Verb te-form + くれて + ありがとう. The doer is the other person. Polite: 〜てくださってありがとうございます. For past: 〜てくれてありがとう (not ありがとうございました). Do not use あげる here.
