〜といえば: speaking of

N3 · 09 Passive, causative & quoting

Brings up a topic that reminds you of something related.

Noun + といえば (also っていえば, といったら). You pick up a topic and add a related comment. 夏といえば、花火だ. Different from 〜は because it is a free association.

Examples

京都きょうとといえば、やっぱりお寺おてらですね。

Speaking of Kyoto, it is temples, after all.

そういえば、田中たなかさんは最近さいきん見みないね。

Speaking of which, I haven't seen Tanaka lately.
