Plain form + と言われている. Passive of 言う. Common in explanations and news. Compare 〜そうだ (a specific report) and 〜といわれる (as a general rule). Often paired with 一般に (generally).

Examples

この神社じんじゃは、恋愛れんあいにご利益ごりやくがあると言いわれている。

It is said that this shrine brings good luck in love.

日本人にほんじんは働はたらきすぎだと言いわれている。

Japanese people are said to work too much.
