Names the source of information you are about to report.
Noun + によると (also によれば). It is usually followed by a hearsay ending such as 〜そうだ, 〜らしい, 〜という. It cannot be used for your own opinion. 〜によれば is slightly more formal.
Examples
天気予報によると、明日は雨だそうです。
According to the weather forecast, it will rain tomorrow.
先生の話によれば、試験は来週になったらしい。
According to the teacher, the exam has apparently been moved to next week.
