〜っぱなし: leave as is; keep doing (carelessly)

N3 · 06 Purpose, decisions and verb endings

Says that something is left in a state, or goes on without a break.

Verb masu-stem + っぱなし. 出しっぱなし (left out), つけっぱなし (left on). The speaker usually criticizes. It can also mean doing the same thing continuously: 立ちっぱなし (standing the whole time).

Examples

電気でんきをつけっぱなしで寝ねてしまった。

I fell asleep with the light left on.

今日きょうは朝あさから一日中いちにちじゅう、立たちっぱなしで疲つかれた。

I was on my feet all day from morning and I am tired.
