Says that you do something over again to make it better.

Verb masu-stem + 直す. For fixing a mistake or trying another way: 書き直す (rewrite), やり直す (start over). Compare 直す alone (to repair). Not for simply repeating the same thing.

Examples

レポートに間違まちがいがあったので、書き直かきなおした。

There was a mistake in the report, so I rewrote it.

もう一度もういちど、最初さいしょからやり直やりなおしてみましょう。

Let us try starting over once more from the beginning.
