〜続ける: keep doing; continue

N3 · 06 Purpose, decisions and verb endings

Says that an action goes on continuously or repeatedly.

Verb masu-stem + 続ける. It stresses lasting a long time. Compare 〜ている, which is a general state. Opposite: 〜やめる. 降り続ける (keep falling) is common.

Examples

雨あめは三日間みっかかん降ふり続つづけた。

The rain kept falling for three days.

この仕事しごとを十じゅう年ねん続つづけてきた。

I have kept doing this job for ten years.
