〜ほどだ: to the extent that; so much that

Describes how big a state is by giving an extreme example.

Plain form + ほどだ (ほど + noun). The extreme example is not literal. Written: ほどの + noun. Compare 〜くらいだ, which is almost the same but more casual.

Examples

その映画えいがは涙が出なみだがでるほど感動かんどうした。

I was moved by that movie to the point of tears.

先週せんしゅうは忙いそがしくて、倒たおれそうなほどだった。

Last week was so busy that I nearly collapsed.
