Contrasts two sides of a situation, or says a change continues.

Plain form + 一方(で), as a sentence connector also 一方. It shows two opposite points about the same topic. After a verb, it can also mean "continues to ...". Written style. Compare 反面, which is similar.

Examples

この車くるまはデザインがいい一方いっぽうで、値段ねだんが高たかすぎる。

This car has a nice design, but on the other hand it is far too expensive.

物価ぶっかは上あがる一方いっぽうで、給料きゅうりょうは変かわらない。

Prices keep rising while wages stay the same.
