N2 · 11 Formal and written style

Marks the means used, or the point when something starts or ends.

Noun + をもって. Formal. Two uses: means ('this letter is notice': 書面をもって) and time ('as of today': 本日をもって). The time use is typical in announcements of an ending.

Examples

本日ほんじつをもって、この店みせは閉店へいてんいたします。

As of today, this shop will close.

書面しょめんをもって、お知おしらせいたします。

We will inform you by written notice.
