〜にもかかわらず: in spite of; even though

Says that something happened despite a condition that would suggest the opposite.

Noun, verb or adjective plain form + にもかかわらず (na-adjective and noun: 〜であるにもかかわらず). Written or formal. Followed by a fact, not a request. Compare 〜のに, more casual and emotional.

Examples

雨あめにもかかわらず、多おおくの人ひとが集あつまった。

Despite the rain, many people gathered.

忙いそがしいにもかかわらず、手伝てつだってくださってありがとうございます。

Thank you for helping me even though you are busy.
