Says that something is created or decided using something as the source or base.

Noun + をもとに (also 〜をもとにして, 〜をもとにした + noun). Used for stories, plans, reports: 実話をもとにした映画. Compare 〜に基づいて, which stresses following rules or facts.

この小説しょうせつは実際じっさいの事件じけんをもとに書かかれた。

This novel was written based on a real incident.

アンケートの結果けっかをもとに、新商品しんしょうひんを開発かいはつした。

We developed a new product based on the survey results.
