N2 · 04 Purpose, means and scope

Says that you understand or achieve something by going through a person, thing or experience.

Noun + を通して. Close to 〜を通じて. Use for experience or media: 留学を通して多くを学んだ. 〜を通して also means "throughout" (一日を通して). The point is the channel or the experience.

Examples

留学りゅうがくを通をとおして、自分じぶんの国くにの良よさに気きづいた。

Through studying abroad, I came to see my own country's good points.

通訳つうやくを通をとおして、社長しゃちょうと話はなしをした。

I spoke with the president by way of an interpreter.
