〜を目的に: for the purpose of; aiming at

N2 · 04 Purpose, means and scope

States the goal or purpose of an action in a clear, slightly formal way.

Noun + を目的に (also 〜を目的として, 〜を目的とした + noun, 〜が目的で). Used in explanations, notices and reports. The noun is the goal: 研究を目的に来日した.

Examples

彼かれは日本語にほんごの勉強べんきょうを目的もくてきに、来日らいにちしました。

He came to Japan for the purpose of studying Japanese.

健康けんこう維持いじを目的もくてきとしたプログラムが人気にんきだ。

Programs aimed at maintaining health are popular.
