N2 · 03 Reasons and causes

A formal written reason, often on signs and notices, or meaning "per".

Noun + につき. Meaning 1: "because of", on notices: 工事中につき、通行できません. Meaning 2: "per": 一人につき二個. Formal and stiff; in speech use 〜ので instead.

Examples

本日ほんじつは休業きゅうぎょうにつき、お電話でんわは承うけたまわっておりません。

Because we are closed today, we are not taking phone calls.

お一人様おひとりさまにつき、二に点てんまでとさせていただきます。

We limit purchases to two items per person.
