〜だけに: precisely because; as expected

Says that because of a special condition, the result is strong or fitting.

Noun or plain form + だけに. Can be positive (期待が大きかっただけに、うれしい) or negative (期待が大きかっただけに、残念だ). It stresses "because it was so". Compare 〜だけあって, used only for praise.

Examples

期待きたいしていただけに、結果けっかを聞きいてがっかりした。

Precisely because I had high hopes, I was let down by the result.

有名ゆうめいな店みせだけに、いつも混こんでいる。

As you would expect from a famous restaurant, it is always crowded.
