〜ものだから: because (excuse)

Gives a reason as an excuse or explanation for something unexpected.

Plain form + ものだから (spoken: もんだから). Often used to explain a mistake or a delay: 道が混んでいたものだから. The speaker sounds apologetic. Cannot be followed by a request or command.

Examples

電車でんしゃが遅おくれたものだから、会議かいぎに間に合まにあいませんでした。

The train was delayed, so I did not make it to the meeting.

あまりに忙いそがしかったもんだから、連絡れんらくできなかったんだ。

I was so busy that I couldn't get in touch.
