〜次第: as soon as; depending on

N2 · 02 Time and sequence

Shows that an action will be done right after something happens, or that the result depends on something.

Meaning 1: verb ます-stem + 次第, "as soon as", for the speaker's future plans: 分かり次第ご連絡します. Meaning 2: noun + 次第だ "depends on": 天気次第. Meaning 1 is polite and formal, and not used for past events.

Examples

詳細しょうさいが分わかり次第しだい、お知おしらせします。

I will let you know as soon as the details are clear.

行いくかどうかは、天気てんき次第しだいです。

Whether I go or not depends on the weather.
