〜かけ: half-done; in the middle of

N2 · 07 Verb-form patterns

Says that an action has been started but not finished.

Verb ます-stem + かけ(の) + noun: 食べかけのパン, 読みかけの本. Also 〜かける: 言いかけてやめる. The action stopped halfway. Compare 〜きる (finish completely).

Examples

読よみかけの本ほんが机つくえの上うえに置おいてある。

A half-read book is lying on the desk.

食たべかけのケーキを冷蔵庫れいぞうこに入いれた。

I put the half-eaten cake in the fridge.
