〜をよそに: ignoring; as if unconcerned

Says someone does something while ignoring other people's worry or expectations.

Noun + をよそに: 心配をよそに, 親の反対をよそに, 周囲の期待をよそに. The noun is someone's concern. Often slightly critical or surprised. Compare 〜をものともせず, which admires toughness.

彼かれは、両親りょうしんの心配しんぱいをよそに、一人ひとりで旅に出たびにでた。

Paying no heed to his parents' worry, he set out on a trip alone.

周囲しゅういの期待きたいをよそに、チームは初戦しょせんで敗やぶれた。
