Says that something unpleasant such as blame or decline cannot be avoided.

Noun + を免れない: 批判を免れない, 非難を免れない, 責任を免れない. Negative things only. Formal, in news and essays. The positive version is 免れる (to escape). Compare 〜を余儀なくされる, which is about forced action.

This decision will not escape criticism.
