Says a strong feeling comes up that you cannot hold back.

Noun of feeling + を禁じ得ない: 同情を禁じ得ない, 怒りを禁じ得ない, 驚きを禁じ得ない. Very formal, writing and speeches. Feeling nouns only. Close to 〜ずにはいられない, but more literary.

Examples

被災ひさいした人々ひとびとの姿すがたに、同情どうじょうを禁きんじ得えなかった。

I could not help feeling sympathy at the sight of the people hit by the disaster.

その不誠実ふせいじつな対応たいおうには、怒いかりを禁きんじ得えない。

I cannot hold back my anger at that insincere response.
