Says a purpose that someone is striving hard to achieve, in literary style.
Verb ない-stem + んがため(に) (する becomes せんがため). Often with sacrifice or hardship. Literary, in speeches and writing. Same meaning as 〜ために, but much more stiff and dramatic. Followed by a noun with の: 生きんがための仕事.
Examples
彼は家族を養わんがために、昼夜働き続けた。
He kept working day and night in order to support his family.
生きんがための選択だったことを、わかってほしい。
I want you to understand that it was a choice made to survive.
