A formal way to compare one thing to another.

Noun + に比して / に比べて. Used in reports, news and papers. It states a difference in numbers or level. Compare 〜に比べて, which is more common and plain.

前年ぜんねんに比ひして、今年ことしの売り上うりあげは一いち割わり増ふえた。

Compared to last year, this year's sales increased by ten percent.
