A formal way to give a reason, often for apology.

Plain form (noun + の) + こととて. It is old-style and polite. Used for excuses: 不慣れなこととて. The second half is often an apology or a request for understanding.

Examples

不慣ふなれなこととて、至いたらぬ点てんが多おおくご迷惑めいわくをおかけしました。

Since I am new to this, I caused you trouble with many shortcomings.

子供こどものしたこととて、どうかお許おゆるしください。

It was something a child did, so please forgive it.
