Says that in the end something was never done, with a feeling of regret.

Verb ない-form without ない + ずじまい (する → せずじまい). Describes a final result that did not happen. It carries disappointment. Compare 〜ないで終わった, which is neutral.

Examples

忙いそがしくて、お礼おれいも言いえずじまいで帰国きこくしてしまった。

I was so busy that I went back to my country without ever thanking them.

結局けっきょく、あの映画えいがは見みずじまいだった。

In the end, I never saw that movie.
