〜ものなら: if one could (but can't)
N1 · 01 Conditions and hypotheticals
Says "if it were possible to do X" about something hard or impossible, often a wish or a challenge.
Usually potential verb (dictionary form) + ものなら, followed by a wish or 〜たい. Sounds like a longing ("if only I could"). It can also be a dare: やれるものならやってみろ ("try it if you can"). Do not confuse with 〜ようものなら, which warns of bad results.
Examples
できるものなら、あの頃に戻ってやり直したい。
If I could, I would go back to those days and start over.
勝てるものなら勝ってみろ。相手は去年の優勝者だぞ。
Win if you can. Your opponent is last year's champion.
