Shows a purpose (with potential or non-volitional verbs), a likeness or a wish.

Dictionary, potential or ない-form + ように = so that. Noun の / past form + ように = like, as. 〜ように言う = tell someone to. Subject may differ, unlike ために.

Examples

忘わすれないようにメモを取とった。

I took notes so that I would not forget.

先生せんせいが言いったようにやってみた。

I tried it the way the teacher said.
