より: than; from

N5 · 04 Adjectives and comparing

Marks the standard of comparison: A は B より adjective.

A は B より … = A is more … than B. Often AのほうがBより. In formal writing also "from/starting at": 四時より.

Examples

今日きょうは昨日きのうより暑あついです。

Today is hotter than yesterday.

電車でんしゃよりバスのほうが安やすいです。

The bus is cheaper than the train.
