N3 · 10 Giving & receiving

Do something for someone lower, or for animals and children; a rough form of あげる.

Verb te-form + やる. Casual and masculine. Also used as a threat or resolve: やってやる ("I'll show them"). Avoid for equals and superiors.

Examples

犬いぬを毎日まいにち散歩さんぽに連つれていってやる。

I take the dog for a walk every day.

子供こどもにおもちゃを買かってやった。

I bought my child a toy.
