〜てほしい: I want you to do

N4 · 02 Favors, passive & causative

Says what you want someone else to do. For what you want to do yourself, use 〜たい.

Verb te-form + ほしい. The other person is marked with に: 彼にも来てほしい. Negative: 〜ないでほしい. Polite and softer: 〜ていただきたい.

Examples

友達ともだちにもっと日本語にほんごで話はなしてほしい。

I want my friend to talk to me in Japanese more.

ここでは大おおきな声を出こえをださないでほしいです。

I would like you not to raise your voice here.
