N4 · 10 Honorific & humble basics

Raises the subject's action respectfully.

お + stem + になる: お読みになる. Chinese-origin verbs: ご + noun + になる (ご利用になる). Not used for 見る, 食べる, する: use special verbs instead.

Examples

先生せんせいはもうお帰おかえりになりました。

The teacher has already gone home.

社長しゃちょうが今いま、お話おはなしになります。

The president will speak now.
