Plain form + ものだ. Dictionary form: general norm or advice. Past + ものだ: "used to" with nostalgia. Adjective + ものだ: emotional exclamation. Spoken: もんだ.

Examples

子供こどもは遊あそぶものだ。

Children are meant to play.

昔むかしはよく川かわで泳およいだものです。

In the old days I often used to swim in the river.
