Something remains in the same state while something else happens.

Vた/ない + まま, N の + まま, adjective + まま. 靴のまま = with shoes on.

Examples

窓まどを開あけたまま、寝ねてしまいました。

I fell asleep with the window open.

昔むかしのままの町並まちなみが残のこっています。

The townscape remains just as it was.
