〜かった: was (i-adjective past)

Past of an i-adjective.

Drop い and add かった: 高い→高かった, おいしい→おいしかった. いい→よかった. Polite: かったです (おいしかったです). Negative past: くなかった. Attached to a verb, ~たかった is the past of ~たい, not this pattern.

Examples

昨日きのうは暑あつかった。

It was hot yesterday.

映画えいがはとても面白おもしろかった。

The movie was very interesting.

昨日きのうのラーメンはおいしかったです。

Yesterday's ramen was delicious.
