〜はずだ: should be; expected to

Expresses a strong expectation based on reasons.

Plain form + はずだ; na-adjective な, noun の. Negative: 〜ないはずだ (should not be) or 〜はずがない (no way). Not used for the speaker's own intention.

Examples

彼かれはもう家いえに着ついたはずだ。

He should have already arrived home.

この店みせは日曜日にちようびも開あいているはずです。

This shop should be open on Sundays too.
