〜せる/させる: make / let someone do

N4 · 02 Favors, passive & causative

Makes or lets someone do something.

Godan: a-row + せる (書かせる). Ichidan: stem + させる. させる, 来させる. Causee takes に (or を for coercion). 'Let me': 〜させてください.

Examples

母ははは子供こどもに野菜やさいを食たべさせる。

Mother makes her child eat vegetables.

先生せんせいは学生がくせいに本ほんを読よませた。

The teacher had the students read a book.
